This is one of the initiatives of the municipality to speed up the transition to a sustainable society. The medal was awarded by an independent jury, during the annual 1852 lecture.<\/p>\n<p>According to the jury report, the Cruquius Medal symbolizes &#8220;the respect and appreciation for special pioneering qualities, entrepreneurship and the innovative strength&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The jury of the Cruquius Medal points out: saline farming also contributes to reducing CO2 emissions from peatlands. And that is a growing problem in the Netherlands, which arises due to lowering the peatland for agricultural purposes.
